1. Jumper wire
A jumper wire is an ordinary single-core wire or a wire with alligator clips on both ends, as shown in Figure 9-8. After connecting the jumper wire to the corresponding terminal on the diagnostic socket, turn on the ignition switch to trigger the operation of the software program for reading the fault code, and at the same time, the fault code can be read out according to the flashing status of the fault indicator light on the combined instrument panel.
2. Codec
The codec is a display composed of a light-emitting diode (LED) connected in series with a resistor R of a certain resistance, as shown in Figure 9-9, the series resistor R is a current-limiting resistor to prevent the LED from being burned out due to excessive current; two LEDs The purpose of the parallel connection is: no matter how the output terminals T1 and T2 of the codec are connected to the positive and negative poles of the diagnostic socket output signal, one LED will work in conduction.
Connect the codec to the corresponding terminal on the diagnostic socket, turn on the ignition switch to trigger the operation of the software program for reading the fault code, and read the fault code according to the flickering of the light-emitting diode on the codec.
3. Fault detector
Automobile fault detector is a special instrument that connects with the fault diagnosis socket (TDCL) on the automobile with the matching connecting harness, and communicates data with the electronic control unit (ECU) of various electronic control systems. In order to facilitate the maintenance personnel to diagnose and test the faults of the electronic control system of the automobile, the automobile manufacturing companies or manufacturers have designed special fault detectors for the automobiles produced by themselves.
